Soothing Kids Meditation for Patience

Patience is an important skill to have in life for managing all sorts of things including:

  • Excitement for an upcoming event/experience

  • Frustration with things not going their way

  • Time management

  • Engagement in school and social interactions

  • Focus in school and learning

Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit your emotional well-being and your overall health. You can meditate on breathing, clearing your mind completely, but you can also meditate on specific objects, thoughts or feelings.

By focusing non-judgemental energy on something like increasing your patience, you give yourself a moment to think on this thing you want to grow inside yourself, and imagine how you may do so. You practice it first inside the meditation, and then take it with you out into the rest of your day, week!

How can meditation help kids improve their patience?

Mindfulness meditation can help children bring awareness to uneasy emotions they are feeling, understand how they are reacting to uncomfortable feelings of overactivity, and restore focus to their goal or intention.

By practicing mindfulness meditation, children can gain a stronger sense of responsibility and control over their minds and their actions.

By taking a few short moments to relax their body, anchor their breathing, and look inward at their feelings, children can find stillness, regulate their emotions, and practice the lifelong skill of healthy self-relaxation.

Closing out the meditation with positive affirmations inspires success and help connect the feelings of relaxation to the feelings of accomplishment.

Meditation Script for Teaching Kids Patience

Have you heard of patience before? Patience means to wait and not get too upset or excited.

It’s normal to feel a lot of excitement, but practicing patience can help you!

Sometimes when we are rushing to finish our chores so we can play outside, it's important to remain patient.

Other times, we might want something to happen right away, but we have to trust it will happen at the right time. Being patient can be difficult, but with practice, we can remain calm and relaxed.

Superheroes need to have patience because they have to know the right time to step in and save the day. If they act too quickly, or wait too long, they might miss their chance to be heroes. I have a secret. You could learn patience, power and be a superhero too. Here, I'll teach you how to be more patient.

First, find a comfortable position, close your eyes, relax your body, relax your mind, and listen to your breath.

Now, imagine you're sitting in a quiet garden.

In front of you are tiny little seedlings that will one day grow up to be big, beautiful flowers.

All they need is a little sunshine, water, and patience.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.

Breathe in to be more patient with yourself and breathe out feeling calm and relaxed.

Breathe in to be more patient with others and breathe out feeling patient and at peace.

Well done! I can see your patience power getting stronger and stronger.

When we feel frustrated because things aren't going our way, we can take deep breaths to help ourselves be patient.

Let's practice one more time to maximize your patience power.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.

Breathe in to be more patient with the world and breathe out letting go of all your frustration.

Breathe in and ball up all your anger, and breathe it out as patience into the world.

You're unshakable!

Nothing can bother you now.

Your patience power is 100% full.

It is really easy to let go of things that anger, frustrate, and annoy us.

It takes some serious superhero strength to face challenges with patience and a peaceful attitude.

It also takes superhero strength to be patient when we're excited and want something really bad.

I'm really proud of you for practicing patience with me today!

The world is a better place with patient, strong, and helpful people like you in it.

Until next time, keep practicing your patience power and teaching it to others.
