Confidence Boosting Kids Meditation for Inner Beauty

Self love and confidence is something that takes years to perfect, and while that can sound overwhelming and discouraging, acknowledging that it’s a very hard thing to do is one of the first steps of making it happen for yourself. By building confidence with your own inner beauty, and recognizing the inner beauty of others, children experience higher self-esteem, be a better friend, and strengthen their inner superhero.

The word “superhero” might sound like a big word, but a lot of the childhood stories we grow up hearing are about characters who exemplify inner beauty. Not every superhero or princess was born perfect, many of them have weaknesses or a fatal flaw like Superman’s kryptonite, but what makes them our favorite character is their confidence, courage, strength, actions, and personality - or more simply - their inner beauty!

What does inner beauty mean?

Beauty, simply put, can be thought of as something that attracts our senses. By extension, inner beauty can be defined as the collection of a person’s character, principles, personality, behavior, beliefs, and qualities that attract our heart. Inner beauty goes deeper than physical appearances into the depths of our being.

The way that we express our inner beauty most often is through our actions and behaviors toward those around us. Inner beauty presents itself within a person as self-confidence, self-esteem, and even fearlessness - all qualities of our favorite superheroes!

Why is teaching kids about inner beauty important?

Every person is more than what meets the eye. Teaching children about the concept of inner beauty helps them build a more resilient sense of self, and have a deeper appreciation for, and more compassion toward, all of the unique people in their life.

Confidence is feeling sure of yourself and your abilities in a realistic, secure way. Confidence arises from the inner knowledge that you're capable of doing great things, are a beautiful person, and have unique gifts to share with the world.

Confidence also empowers us to appreciate our special qualities and allows our inner beauty to shine. Confidence and a strong sense of self help us know exactly who we are, and see all of the beauty and power we hold.

How does meditation help children improve inner beauty?

Guided meditation can help children build a strong sense of who they are through mindfulness exercises observing their unique qualities, training themselves to be more regulated in their emotions, and cultivating a sense of self by experiencing their “inner world.”

By witnessing their inner beauty, children may become much less influenced by the world around them: they may be able to recognize their feelings better, form their own opinions of the world, and be confident in making decisions for themselves.

A 2018 study, Development of Positive Self Concept and Self Esteem of Students and Its Relationship with Practices of Yoga and Meditation, states:

“…yoga and meditation can help us to transform a lack of self esteem into inner confidence, self-acceptance and self-belief. Firstly, it enables us to meet, greet, and make friends with ourselves. We get to know who we are and to accept and embrace ourselves just as we are. We soon find that our doubts, insecurities or fears are really only superficial as we begin to connect with a deeper place of trust, dignity and self-worth.”

Meditation and Mindful Self-Talk are Great Practice

Kids can struggle with self confidence and seeing their inner beauty as much as adults do, and they can practice as much as any adult should. And adults absolutely should.

One way to practice is in guided meditation. Meditation is all about acceptance and beliefs, both about the world and about yourself. It’s a chance to pause the outside world and breathe.

Guided meditations like the one provided below can help children set intentions, learn new concepts like inner beauty, and exercise their mindfulness muscles.

When you and your child are ready to practice building confidence in yourself, read aloud the following script with them and let your inner beauty shine!

Inner Beauty Meditation Script

There's so much beauty in this world.

The shining sun, the glowing moon, and the twinkling stars are some of my favorites.

Just like we find beauty on the outside, we also find beauty from within.

Inner beauty is not about the way something looks, it's about the confidence in who you are.

Sometimes we don't feel confident and become nervous, shy, or scared.

These feelings are natural.

When we focus on our inner beauty, we can transform these feelings into confidence and strength.

Inner beauty is a superpower because when you’re confident you can help yourself and others like a real hero.

Let's boost our inner beauty together.

First, get into a comfortable position.

Close your eyes, relax your shoulders, and focus your breathing.

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth at your own pace.

Just breathe and relax.

Now think of a beautiful person or place in your life and meditate on the beauty in your life.

Now, take a deep breath in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.

Breathe in confidence and breathe out shyness.

Breathe in confidence and breathe your inner beauty out into the world.

Amazing job!

Your confidence is shining so bright. I can see your inner beauty expanding with every breath.

Let's boost our inner beauty powers more so we can become an even more confident hero.

Breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.

Breathe in to boost your inner beauty and breathe out feeling confident and strong.

Breathe in all your nervousness and breathe it out, feeling calm and confident.

And one more time.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Now, let your body return to breathing at your own pace.

When you're ready, open your eyes.

You're so beautiful and confident.

Remember, beauty is not just visible from the outside, but also from the inside.

Each day is a treasure.

Until next time, keep looking for the beauty in your life and the beauty in yourself.
