Encouraging Kids Meditation for Empathy

Empathy is a key ingredient in positive friendships and relationships. It reduces conflict and misunderstandings and leads to helping behavior, kindness, and even greater success in life in general.

Empathy is feeling the happiness and sadness of others along with them.

Superheroes are empathetic people because they're always trying to help others. Empathy is a superpower that you can unlock with deep breathing. Let's do some mindful breathing and increase our empathy together.

Why is empathy important?

Having empathy enables us to build those social connections. To feel connected to others is hugely important for our optimal wellbeing. It is the very basis of human relationships and helps us to feel valued, loved, and cared for. Being connected to others is good for our mental wellbeing

As with any meditation, especially any meditation focusing on practicing and increasing emotional skills, beginning with a relaxed, settled body creates a good foundation to build on as you move through the meditation.

Whether a meditation is guiding your breathing in moments, throughout, or not at all, let your breath be something to come back to when you need to refocus or feel grounded. Let your breath come naturally, through your nose and mouth. If the suggested method or pace doesn’t work for you—don't worry! Just find and do what works best for you.

Simple Empathy Meditation for Kids

First, lets find a comfortable position, close our eyes, relax our shoulders, and let go of any stress.

Now, just focus on breathing.

Feeling the air going in through our nose and out through our mouth.

Keep breathing nice and slow at a comfortable pace, and think of the people and animals you care about.

When we feel thankful for the people and animals in our life, it boosts our empathy superpowers.

If you know how other people or animals feel, then we can help them.

Empathy helps us know when people are in trouble or could use a friend.

Now that we’re thinking of someone you love, let's take a few breaths together to really grow our powers.

Lets take a deep breath in through our nose, filling up the whole body, and breathe out exhaling all the air in our lungs.

Breathe in love and gratitude for others and breathe out love and gratitude for the world.

Breathe in the desire to help others and breathe out feeling empathy for the people in our life.

Let's take a few more breaths so we can be an empathetic friend to all people and animals.

Take a deep breath in through our nose, filling up our whole body, and breathe out exhaling all the air in our lungs.

Breathe in empathy for others and breathe out love and kindness into the world.

Breath in the desire to be a good friend and breathe out feeling strong and ready to save the day.

The next time you see a friend in need, remember that you can use the power of empathy to help them!
